ERC137 Vangelis - Blade Runner

Vangelis’ soundtrack for the film Blade Runner is a sonic blockbuster. The legendary score is rightfully considered a pioneering ambient electronic masterpiece that perfectly mirrors the film's dark, dystopian atmosphere.

ERC have collaborated with designer Neil Bowen and Royal Warranted multidisciplinary fabrication company Zone Creations to produce a unique artefact from the Blade Runner world.

Design Notes;

Ridley Scott’s adaption of Philip K Dick’s Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep novel is a masterpiece. The near future (now retro future) sci-fi noir is so visually rich, with production design based on the incredible concepts of Sid Mead. The visual language in this film has such a depth that there are many scenes and objects to draw direct inspiration from.

The main out box references a container in Hannibal Chew’s eye workshop, the green glow edge Perspex neon effect, mirrors all the neon signs through out the Blade Runner world.

Once you open the box you are presented with a 12” size booklet, this is printed on Peregrina Majestic paper which has a metallic quality, adding a different depth to the film stills. The stills are all presented with white boarders which is another reference to the collections of photos used as memory motives in the movie. The booklet is sewn with a red thread as an ascent colour to red Kanji on the outer box.

There are custom shaped foam discs which hold the vinyl in place. Each vinyl is housed in a bespoke inner sleeve with a clear foiled graphic both sides that reference a navigation screen inside on of the police Spinners.

Once the records are removed from the box, it reveals the solid brass spindle at the centre of a black marbled Jesmonite tile. The tile draws influence from the interior of Deckard’s apartment - which in turn is influenced by the architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s Ennis House in LA. Everything inside the main box is dark to amplify the neon in the glow edge.

Cut using the original 1994 1630 tape through our unique 1965 Lyrec/Ortofon all valve sv8 lathe. No equalisation, compression or any other processing was added during the cutting process.

Edition of 99 priced at £2,950. Order here.
